KidLinks Grades K - 6
KidLinks logo Our Bookawocky Summer Reading site returns on June 7! Kids and teens will be able to earn online badges by writing book reviews, making book lists, taking quizzes, and writing blog posts about their summer reading and learning. Every time a student earns a badge they will move up on the Leaderboard and be able to enter a drawing to win a free book.
Check out our Summer Reading FAQ to find out more about all the free, fun, and educational opportunities Hennepin County Library offers at our library locations and online. Youth who participate in summer learning programs like Bookawocky will be better prepared for school in the fall.
Books Reading BOOKS & READING
Did you know your students can participate in Online Book Clubs this summer? Kids can use a computer at the library, at home or use a mobile device to access the internet and participate. Our online book clubs are very fun and flexible and include daily trivia and polls. These clubs are great for busy kids, tech-savvy kids, and kids who love to share their ideas.
Homework Help HOMEWORK HELP
Students in summer school can get free online tutoring all summer long through Homework Rescue. Tutoring is available every day from 1:00pm to 11:00pm for students in grades 3 and up. All students need is a library card, and they can work with professional tutors in a variety of subjects including math, science, and writing. Spanish-speaking tutors are also available!

As mentioned above, teens are invited to visit our Bookawocky Summer Reading site where they can earn virtual badges through online activities to share their summer learning as well as entering a drawing to win a free book.
Teens grades 6-8 may be especially interested in our online book clubs, which include a secure space to talk on forums with other youth and engage with books in a new way.

  • Teen Topics: BE CREATIVE

Have you been to the Best Buy Teen Tech Center at the Minneapolis Central Library? Adult mentors work with teens interested in using technology and multimedia tools in their quests to be creative. Make music in our state-of-the-art recording studio! Explore robotics and 3-D printing! Make something awesome! Whether looking for casual activities or pursuing a passion, the library can help point the way to all sorts of cool stuff. Teens looking for ways to express themselves will also love our Be Creative guide and its list of websites focusing on Contests, DIY & Crafts, Dance, Design, Film & Media, Music, Performance, Poetry & Writing and Visual Arts.

  • Read On: TEEN BOOK CLUBS

In addition to the online book clubs on the Summer Reading website, there are a number of teens' book clubs offered in library buildings. You can even set up your own book clubs at home using one of our teen book club kits.
