St. Anthony Library has closed temporarily for renovation

Hennepin County Library – St. Anthony, 2941 Pentagon Dr. N.E., closed for renovation on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. The library is scheduled to re-open on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 9 a.m.

Improvements will include a larger meeting room and new interactive learning space in the children’s area. Ceiling and interior walls will be reconstructed to open up the library.

Comfortable seating areas will be created with natural light and power outlets. Carpeting, furniture and shelving will be replaced, and computers will be rearranged to support both individual and collaborative work.

New automated materials handling equipment and a work room reconfiguration will improve behind-the-scenes efficiencies.

The renovation budget is $850,000.

“Hennepin County is committed to providing libraries that are well-maintained, easy to access and welcoming,” said District 2 Hennepin County Commissioner Linda Higgins. “We also want our libraries, including St. Anthony, to respond to community needs. This renovation project is helping us achieve those goals.”

During the 14-week closure, St. Anthony Library patrons are encouraged to visit other Hennepin County libraries: Northeast Library is located at 2200 Central Ave. N.E. in Minneapolis; Pierre Bottineau Library is at 55 Broadway St. N.E. in Minneapolis; and Minneapolis Central Library is at 300 Nicollet Mall downtown.

Holds with St. Anthony Library as the pickup location will change to Northeast Library automatically. To select a different pickup location for holds, patrons can Ask Us online, by phone at 612-543-KNOW (5669) or in person at any Hennepin County library.

The book return at St. Anthony Library will also be closed during this time. Books and other library materials may be renewed or returned to any other Hennepin County library. To renew materials by phone, patrons can call the Library’s renewal line at 612-543-8811.

St. Anthony Library has been providing service to St. Anthony and northeast Minneapolis residents since 1963, when it opened in a storefront in the east end of the St. Anthony Shopping Center. The library continues to operate out of the shopping center, moving to its present location in 2002.
