Public Web Resources
  • ELSIE: Early Literacy Storytime Ideas Exchange – Search ELSIE to find books that help children develop the early literacy skills necessary for learning success. Presentation notes show how to emphasize skills in a fun, interactive story sharing experience. ELSIE is regularly updated by Youth Services librarians.

  • HCL on MySpace – Here's how we created our MySpace profile. You can access HCL's collection through this portal, subscribe to a blog featuring library events and items of interest, and find new friends such as library fans, authors, and other library systems.

  • Book Club Kits – Hennepin County Library Web Services staff developed an online reservation system, allowing library card holders to check available dates for a kit title, place a reserve and choose a pick-up location for the kit. Kits include 8-10 copies of the book, discussion questions, and tips for a successful book group.

  • Fugitive Fact File – compiled by Hennepin County Library staff from files maintained at branches throughout the Library system, all of the data and resources collected here have been used by library staff to answer reference questions. The file is updated continuously as new information is obtained.

  • Subject Guides – subscription databases, selected Web sites, links into the Library Catalog, librarian notes, library events, and other resources we feel will be of particular interest to Hennepin County Library users.
