Advanced Internet Searching

This class offers an overview of basic Internet searching techniques and advanced searching methods for accessing sound, graphic and language resources on the Web.
The class is presented by the Internet Searching Reference Training Team.

This class is required for librarians, associate librarians and substitute librarians who are new to HCL. Current staff, including substitutes, who want a refresher, are welcome to attend this class. Supervisory approval is required. Current substitutes should request approval from the supervisor of the agency where they substitute most often. Completion of the Basic Internet Searching class is highly recommended.

  1. Advanced searching: Internet language resources
    Learn how to search for language resources on the Web and retrieve dictionaries, translation resources, slang and more.
  2. Advanced searching: Internet image resources
    Learn how to retrieve a variety of images from the Web, including clip art, scanned documents, historical images and aerial photography.
  3. Advanced searching: Multimedia Internet resources
    Learn how to efficiently retrieve music and other sound files, as well as video files, from the Web. Locating and viewing sites with virtual tours and web cams will also be covered.
