Working with Volunteers Training

Classes listed below are presented by the Volunteer Services Section of Community Relations. Contact to develop customized curriculum designed specifically to meet the needs of your work group, agency, or resource group.

Measuring Program Effectiveness:
Position your time spent with volunteers through measured outcomes of your program. See how using a variety of assessment tools and evaluations can build capacity within your agency.

Organizing Your Program:
Identify the planning and process needed for successful utilization of volunteers in your workplace. Know what should be considered when interviewing, screening and accepting potential volunteers, when and how to utilize the resources of the HCL Volunteer Services section. The 90-minute session will include needs assessment, recruitment, documentation and community service.

Orientation & Training:
Determine what to include within your orientation session with new volunteers and what should be considered in formal and informal training for on-going volunteers. This session also includes a discussion on the policies and procedures that are in place within the HCL program.

Supervision of Volunteers:
Learn how to instill a motivational environment for your agency's volunteers. Learn how to use delegation to accomplish your program's mission as well as to retain your volunteers.

Volunteers and HCL - Quick Class:
Hear all about the existing and updated resources available to utilize volunteers in your agency. Get ideas from colleagues on best practices, volunteer tasks and supervision tips and utilize the ideas to plan, organize and maintain your volunteer resources. This class is for all new or experienced staff who work with volunteers or supervise staff who do.
