Come visit! We welcome conference go-ers to visit Minneapolis Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall (9 blocks N. of the Convention Center). The Cesar Pelli-designed building was completed in 2006. Listed below are floor-by-floor guides to the library's collections:

    Public Web Resources

    • HCL on MySpace – Here's how we created our MySpace profile. You can access HCL's collection through this portal, subscribe to a blog featuring library events and items of interest, and find new friends such as library fans, authors, and other library systems.

    • Book Club Kits – Hennepin County Library Web Services staff developed an online reservation system, allowing library card holders to check available dates for a kit title, place a reserve and choose a pick-up location for the kit. Kits include 8-10 copies of the book, discussion questions, and tips for a successful book group.

    • Fugitive Fact File – compiled by Hennepin County Library staff from files maintained at branches throughout the Library system, all of the data and resources collected here have been used by library staff to answer reference questions. The file is updated continuously as new information is obtained.

    • Subject Guides – subscription databases, selected Web sites, links into the Library Catalog, librarian notes, library events, and other resources we feel will be of particular interest to Hennepin County Library users.

    Demonstration Projects

The links below present some of the resources that have been developed for HCL staff on our internal Web site. We hope they illustrate some ways library staff can apply the power of Web-enabled databases to allow us to work more efficiently and provide better public service.
    • Collection Needs Database – The Collection Needs database allows branch staff to communicate local and library-wide subject needs to central Collection Materials Selectors. Individual selectors can update the database as materials are selected in each subject area allowing branch staff to track their requests.

    • Program and Publicity Request Form – The Program and Publicity Request form is used by staff to advise the public information office of upcoming programs and booksales in their agency.
