POLICY
Hennepin County Library provides lists of books and media to meet the information and recreation needs of all ages. These lists are updated regularly to provide current information on available titles. Lists are produced or purchased according to the most efficient use of staff and budget resources to meet long term and immediate demand.
Types of Booklists:
Hennepin County Library produces five categories of booklists. System booklists will be annotated. Exceptions include lists such as If you like… lists.
- System-produced and distributed lists. Examples include:
- Regularly updated lists such as Starting School list
- Event-driven lists, such as Summer program theme lists, world music, and business lists
- Annual Readers’ Advisory lists, adult and juvenile

- Electronic lists. Examples include:
- Dynix Current and Choice lists
- Hennepin County Library Home Page can include links to American Library Association (ALA) lists, other lists, and HCL lists
- Public Information Office (PIO) purchased and acquired lists. Examples include:
- ALA lists: Caldecott, Newbery, Coretta Scott King, and specialized lists such as Multicultural lists and College Bound lists
- Maud Hart Lovelace and Minnesota Book Awards lists
- Agency-produced lists, which are a quick response to customer-driven needs. Examples include:
- Lists in conjunction with a book talk, event or program, and lists for in-house use with groups or individuals
- Template of "Booklist Information Form" can be used to create the lists
Whenever possible, subject headings for additional materials should be included. All lists should be dated.
- Staff is encouraged to share their lists
- Agency Notebooks. Notebooks or files of booklists at reference desk, used in-house.
Notebooks include lists from a variety of sources.
