POLICY
Library Closed
Materials returned in the bookdrop when the library is closed (either as a regular part of the schedule or due to emergencies, e.g., weather or mechanical failure) will be considered returned on the last day the library was open. If overdue, fines will be assessed only on days the library is open.
After the library system or an individual agency has been closed due to a weather emergency or a mechanical failure, there will be a fine-free period for the material DUE the day(s) the system/library was closed. The period will be maintained through at least the next day, providing patrons, who had materials due during the closed period, one day in which to return them without penalty. Even if some, or all, agencies reopen during the day originally announced as CLOSED, the fine-free period WILL go into effect. Staff has the authority to negotiate fines as individual situations warrant.
Death in Borrower’s Immediate Family
No fines are charged for material returned overdue because of a death in the borrower’s immediate family if the material is returned within two weeks of the date of death.
