Library Administrative Policies
Library administrative policies are developed by staff to provide a general framework to enable staff to work productively and effectively. As with County policies and pro-cedures, staff are encouraged to make suggestions to the individual/team/committee responsible for initiating and reviewing the policy.
"Library administration" often refers to the Administrative Committee, comprised of staff in positions with working titles of director, deputy director, and division manager. Usually, Administrative Committee members bring draft policies to the full committee that have been developed by teams, work groups, or committees*. These policies are then discussed and approved/disapproved by the full committee.
Occasionally, administrative policies "evolve through practice" and are formalized by the committee. The Administrative Committee may delegate to other teams, work groups, and committees the authority and responsibility of final approval of specific administrative policies.
* It is these teams, work groups, and committees that are assigned initiating and review responsibilities.
