POLICY
Hennepin County Library's interactive storytime series are designed to enhance language and cognitive development, creativity, school readiness and an enjoyment of books in children ages birth to six years.
These series include baby, toddler, preschool, family and multilingual storytimes. These programs incorporate research-based techniques that promote early literacy skill development and help parents and caregivers cultivate their children's school readiness.
All HCL storytimes are presented by library staff members who receive comprehensive training in current best practices. Multilingual storytimes are presented by library staff members in combination with volunteers who have language and cultural expertise. Volunteers also receive training in research-based techniques.
HCL recognizes that parents and caregivers are the first and best teachers of their children, and their attendance and active involvement at storytimes with their children is required.
Childcare providers should contact the youth services librarian at their agency to discuss services for children in their care. Childcare groups are not routinely admitted to storytimes.
