Recognizing that a wide variety of family structures exist, there are some circumstances where minor children (under age 18) with different resident addresses may have two barcoded library cards and two Dynix patron records. This includes:
Minor children who are members of separated families and who reside at two households. Quite often in these situations, the cards are kept at the separate households and different parents take responsibility for control of each card.
Minor children in foster homes. A child may have one card for the home address and another for the foster family address.
Registration procedure:
Current identification is required for each address, or the card(s) will be mailed for verification.
When the minor becomes 18 years old:
In the patron record that is to remain current, remove the special message in the NOTES field #12 of that record.
In the patron record that no longer will be used, check for a patron PURF, current loans, or list of holds.
If the second record is clear, delete that patron record from the system. Use the .M command to display the command line that allows you to delete the old patron record. This will eliminate confusion in having two records in the patron name list.
If the record is not clear, the system will not let you delete it. Set it to Lost. Add a "Special Message" block to the active record in order to get the second record cleared.
