RENEWAL POLICY
Telephone and in-person renewals are a service to the patron. When the patron initiates a renewal, they are making a good faith effort to "legal" access to the borrowed materials.
-
Renewals must be made on the original library card. Materials may not be renewed from one library card to another. When calling an agency to renew material, patrons must provide the valid patron barcode or the patron ID number from the date due slip. With appropriate identification, staff may look up patron barcode numbers for patrons renewing material in person.
- The renewal is done primarily using the .L (list) function and checking the item due dates during the discussion with the patron. Patrons may be asked to present materials or item barcode numbers to renew.
- There is a limit of three renewals per item per patron for most materials.
- The following may not be renewed:
- interlibrary loan materials
- art prints
- material from other systems (ILLs)
- puppets
- material with reserves/holds
- special holiday materials
- DVDs
- Bestseller Express material
- Renewals for any HCL agency material will be accepted at any other HCL agency.
- There will be NO limit on the number of telephone renewals taken at one time. If the agency workload is too heavy at the time a patron calls, ask the patron if they would like to call back later, or take the patron's name and telephone number and call them back as soon as possible.
PAYMENT POLICY
Patrons who have fines up to $49.99 may renew items. When doing staff-assisted renewals, staff should remind patrons who have charges on their cards that the payment policy will be in effect when they next checkout materials.
