online safety tips

top ten tips

  1. Follow your family rules for using the Internet.

  2. Ask an adult first if you want to register for something or enter a contest online.

  3. Use an SN*, or screen name on Instant Messaging or IM*, and on chats. Don't use your real name.

  4. Keep your password a secret. Don't even tell it to your best friend.

  5. Don't by a cyber-bully*. It's not ok to write mean things about people on the Internet. You can get in trouble!

  6. Don't stay online if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable.

  7. Never agree to get together with someone you meet on the Internet.

  8. Never put any photos on the Internet unless you check with adults.

  9. Before you download anything on a computer, ask an adult. Some files can harm your computer.

  10. If you see something online that you know is not right, tell an adult.

Remember: It's easy for people online to pretend to be someone different than they really are.

Remember: Some information you'll find online is NOT true !
