Cover ArtThe book thief
by Zusak, Markus.
I’d read several reviews on this book, so decided I should read it. More geared toward teen readers, I did enjoy the book. It was interesting to view WWII through the eyes of a young German girl, with narration assistance by death. Overall a good story--6 out of 10 for me.   posted May 11, 2014 at 8:54PM

Cover ArtNever tell [sound recording] : a novel of suspense
by Burke, Alafair
The initial suicide / homicide ends quite unexpectedly with other twists and turns built in. Interesting enough for me to want to keep listening. Well developed story with an ending out of the blue. Not the big ending I usually love, but good conclusion nonetheless. 6 out of 10 for me.   posted May 11, 2014 at 7:34PM

Cover ArtThe Rosie project
by Simsion, Graeme C.
Would have to say this was a nice break from the suspense thrillers I usually listen to. Humorous story about a genetics professor and his attempts to improve his social interactions in an effort to find more friends . . . and a wife! Many laugh-out-loud moments in this one. Kudos to Dan O’Grady for an awesome job with the narration on this audio CD and to the author for wrapping up the story in a most unexpected way! 10 out of 10.   posted May 1, 2014 at 9:39PM

Cover ArtHawke
by Ted Bell
Started reading the Alexander Hawke series with books 6 & 7, "Warlord" and "Phantom". Decided to go back to the beginning and since "Hawke" was only available in abridged version on audio CD, actually read this one. What a great story, with a central plot, but many "sub-stories" building up to the ending. Love, revenge, fortune seeking, power, friendship and hidden treasure--this book has it all! I usually like a "big" ending to my stories, but this book had so much of everything I enjoy along the way that I really didn’t need the "ta-da" at the end! 8 out of 10 for me.   posted May 1, 2014 at 12:56PM

Cover ArtSecond honeymoon [sound recording]
by Patterson, James
Really liked this story--interesting plot involving dual FBI investigations. The story was really exciting until there was a hint of the suspect in each case, then the ending was just so-so and very expected. The excitement left as each investigation was brought to conclusion. 7 out of 10 for me.   posted Apr 27, 2014 at 5:37PM

Cover ArtAvenger
by Frederick Forsyth
Great audio CD! A bit confusing at times towards the beginning as the story goes from 1995 to 2001 to the 1960’s to 1975 and back to 2001. Many intriguing threads come together to make for a great story. For me, when you have a novel with all this excitement the ending is huge and can make or break the story. The ending on this one--probably the last two to three sentences--make this novel all worth while! I don’t give a 10 out of 10 very often, and right up to the end I was at an 8 out of 10, but the ending on this one earned the book a 10!! Well done, Mr. Forsyth!!   posted Apr 14, 2014 at 10:07PM

Cover ArtA heartbeat away [sound recording] : a novel
by Palmer, Michael
This story actually made me nervous listening on audio CD because the story was so believable I could actually see something like this happening. Some authors have a true talent for building out a story and Michael Palmer does just that. Great story, great characters, and for me the most important part of a great story--a great ending! 8 out of 10 for me.   posted Apr 9, 2014 at 9:10PM

Cover ArtKiss and tell
by Michaels, Fern
Blindsided (Sisterhood #22) was just a so-so read for me, but after having read all the previous stories in this series, I had to move forward. Very good decision--this story was a great read! Intriguing tale of a boy’s humble beginnings in an orphanage to a well thought out ponzi scheme, the story keeps you guessing up until the end. And goes to show that your past can really come back to haunt you!! 8 out of 10 for me on this one.   posted Apr 9, 2014 at 8:56PM

Cover ArtThe dance of anger : a woman’s guide to changing the patterns of intimate relati
by Lerner, Harriet Goldhor.
"Women have a long legacy of assuming responsibility for other people’s feelings and for caring for others at the expense of the self". How true is this for so many women out there? I picked up this book because I felt I was having anger management issues and found instead that a female’s role in society often causes women to suppress anger. This book shows women how to effectively express that anger in non-combative ways. Society encourages certain behaviors in women, mostly to their detriment, so this book was really an eye-opener for me and helped me understand some of the feelings I’ve been experiencing. This book should be a must read for every woman--from age 15 on!! 8 out of 10.   posted Apr 5, 2014 at 10:36AM

Cover ArtSplit image [sound recording]
by Robert B. Parker
Really enjoyed this story, with the added bonus that it was just a 4-disk audio CD. Great story with many twists and turns; however, the ending was a bit predictable and anti-climatic for me. Really liked the concept of the identical twins and would have like to see this part of the story line developed and used a bit more. 7 out of 10.   posted Mar 25, 2014 at 8:34PM

Cover ArtFortunately, the milk [sound recording]
by Gaiman, Neil
Great story--something good to get your kids started on audio books. You’ll never look at a coconut or hot air balloon in quite the same way ever again. And all of this because Mom was out of town and Dad forgot to get the milk! 7 out of 10   posted Mar 19, 2014 at 6:55PM

Cover ArtBy order of the President [compact disc]
by W. E. B. Griffin
Love Charley Castillo!! What a great character--made better by side kicks Fernando Lopez, Dick Miller, and Betty Schneider. As I listened to this story there were several times I laughed out loud because of the antics of these main characters. A great listen, even though the ending was a bit anti-climatic for me. Looking forward to listening to the next story in the Presidential Agent series to see what Charley is up to next (and hoping to see a connection between Betty and Charley)! Dick Hall was a great narrator on this. 8 out of 10 for me.   posted Mar 18, 2014 at 1:30PM

Cover ArtConfessions of a wild child : Lucky, the early years
by Jackie Collins
Have to say I was anxiously awaiting the release of this book and was extremely disappointed. It seems that Collins felt she had to write another "Lucky Santangelo" story and decided to fill in the gaps in her teenage years - 15 to 16. Honestly, I got enough info on this period in Lucky’s life in the flashbacks from previous stories that this seemed like fluff. I guess I would rather Collins took the point of view of Lucky’s daughter (a new topic) rather than going back and adding filler to an area the had already been touched on. The good thing--very easy read that took a day to finish the story. Only 3 of 10 for me on this one.   posted Mar 11, 2014 at 7:03PM

Cover ArtCemetery Lake : a thriller
by Cleave, Paul
Great story--this is my favorite Paul Cleave story (I’ve read most of them). All of the moving parts do not come together until the last few chapters. A great mystery that keeps you guessing right up to the end!! An interesting twist on Catholic priests--really makes you think about what goes on in the confessional and parsonage. 8 of 10 for me on this one.   posted Feb 17, 2014 at 5:03PM

Cover ArtThe longest ride [sound recording]
by Sparks, Nicholas
Nicholas Sparks does it again--amazing story!! Two love stories spanning generations and a unique situation that causes their paths to cross with amazing results. A little disconnected going between the two couples; however, the ending was remarkable!! 8 of 10 for me.   posted Feb 17, 2014 at 4:57PM

Cover ArtPhantom [sound recording] : an Alex Hawke novel
by Bell, Ted.
There were a lot of moving parts in this story--lots of mysterious "happenings" that you soon realize are connected somehow. The pieces do come together and after Hawke gets resolution with his adversary there is some activity that I feel adds little value to the story. Love the Stokely character and his relationship with Hawke. Enjoyed the addition of Alexi and Spooner. 8 out of 10 for me.   posted Feb 14, 2014 at 9:08AM

Cover ArtThe whole truth [sound recording]
by Baldacci, David
What a great story!! A lot going on in the beginning made it a bit hard to follow, but once it hit its stride, it was hard to stop listening. Intrigue and suspense keep you wondering what will happen next. Definitely 9 out of 10 for me--if simply for the awesome conclusion that Baldacci gives this story! Narration by Ron McLarty made the story an enjoyable listen!   posted Jan 22, 2014 at 9:30PM

Cover ArtThe other woman
by Hank Phillippi Ryan
Serial killer (or not), politics, and long-lost family make for an intriguing story. The author lays out the story well and keeps you guessing right up until the end. Love the Jane Ryland and Jake Brogan characters . . . hopefully somewhere down the road they will be a couple!! Good read--7 out of 10 on this one.   posted Jan 5, 2014 at 9:13PM

Cover ArtLifeguard [compact disc]
by James Patterson and Andrew Gross
My first read / listen of a James Patterson novel was a pleasant surprise!! Great story line with the mystery ending in a totally unexpected way. The extended epilogue provided a wonderfully warm ending despite the needless brutality that happened during the course of the story. Because of the awesome ending, 9 out of 10 for me!   posted Dec 31, 2013 at 12:05PM

Cover ArtThe wrong girl
by Ryan, Hank Phillippi
Great story--great characters--great ending!! Ms Ryan’s mystery is a tangled web of story lines and characters that is well defined and keeps you wondering right up to the end how all the moving parts fit together. Check this one out--8 of 10 for me!! Will now be checking out "The Other Woman" by this author.   posted Dec 19, 2013 at 12:22PM

Sandford has another winner. This one features Virgil Flowers. Good story line and holds your attention. 8 of 10 for me.   posted Dec 3, 2013 at 7:58PM

Cover ArtKane & Abel [sound recording]
by Archer, Jeffrey
Two boys born on the same day, but world’s apart--one in less than ideal conditions in Poland, the other with a silver spoon in his mouth in Boston. Little does the reader know how their paths will cross, but the author weaves a tale that keeps you wanting more. After completing the 16 disks I had gone through so many emotions, but found myself in tears at the end. What a great and amazing story teller Jeffrey Archer is!! Definitely worth a listen--9 out of 10 for me on this one.   posted Nov 25, 2013 at 10:36AM

Cover ArtJoe Victim : a thriller
by Cleave, Paul
Really enjoyed this sequel to "The Cleaner"!! Well thought out story and loved the "sweet revenge" Joe got in the end!! 7 out of 10 on this one.   posted Nov 20, 2013 at 3:07PM

Cover ArtThe hit
by Baldacci, David
Have to say this Baldacci story was a bit harder to get into than "The Innocent"; however, I can’t say I was disappointed in the story!! The story picks up pace rather quickly and doesn’t slow down--hang on and enjoy the ride!! Absolutely love the cameo appearances from "Super Agent" Vance and Julie Getty from "The Innocent"!! 9 out of 10 for me on this one.   posted Nov 13, 2013 at 8:10PM

Cover ArtDead connection [compact disc]
by Burke, Alafair
This story had me hooked from the very beginning. The author kept redirecting so I was not able to figure out who the "bad" guy was until the very end. Well thought out plot made for an enjoyable listen!! 8 of 10 for me on this one.   posted Oct 14, 2013 at 8:32AM

Cover ArtBlindsided
by Michaels, Fern
I’ve read all of the Sisterhood novels, so had to continue on the series with this one. The story was a bit slow to begin with, but once it started to develop I hard a hard time putting the book down. Gotta love a little Vigilante form of revenge!! Just an OK read for me--6 out of 10.   posted Oct 8, 2013 at 8:07PM

Cover ArtRobert B. Parker’s Killing the blues [sound recording]
by Brandman, Michael
After listening to a couple long audiobooks (14 discs each) thought it was time for something a little shorter. This story fit the bill!! Not real exciting, but a good story nonetheless. Really liked the fact that they portrayed the small town chief police as a caring individual who really influenced the lives of many of the town’s residents. If you’re looking for a quick read, this is a good one!! 7 out of 10 for me.   posted Oct 3, 2013 at 12:47PM

Cover ArtWarlord [sound recording] : an Alex Hawke novel
by Bell, Ted.
There were too many things going on early in this story--and flash backs thrown in for good measure. Really hard to keep things straight!! However, I figured out it would all come together and was not disappointed in the last half of the story!! As with previous reviewers, agree that the characters Hawke and Stokes are great characters and even better together!! 6 out of 10 for me.   posted Oct 3, 2013 at 12:39PM

Cover ArtPlay dead [sound recording]
by Coben, Harlan
Wow--from the first word to the last!! Just when you think you have it all figured out (which I did several times during the course of the story) the author throws a curve and the story continues!! The author has a great story to tell and did a great job in pulling it together. If you like suspense mixed with excitement, this one’s defitely worth your time to listen on audio book!! 10 out of 10 for me on this one.   posted Sep 9, 2013 at 8:35AM

Cover ArtBeyond tomorrow [sound recording]
by Michaels, Fern
Have a very hard time saying this, because I typically enjoy Fern Michael’s stories, but this one is a dud!! Very predictable and hard to hold my interest. Glad the audio book was only 5 CDs!! If I would have had another audio book available to listen to I would have done something I don’t normally do--I would have quit listening to the story. 1 out of 10 for me.   posted Aug 14, 2013 at 8:42PM

Cover ArtSay you’re sorry
by Michael Robotham
I grabbed this book on my way out of the library from a display of books recommended by library staff. What caught my eye was a one-line review on the cover by David Baldacci and I had just listened to an audiobook by him and loved it. Have to say that my expectations were high because of this and was a bit disappointed. The book had a very good story line, but I was disturbed by the sexual violence towards the two teenage girls in the story, who had been kidnapped. I have to say the end of the book was very good and surprising to learn who the kidnapper / killer really was. Just an OK read for me--5 out of 10.   posted Aug 5, 2013 at 10:00AM

Cover ArtMayday [sound recording]
by DeMille, Nelson
All I can say is WOW!! They gave a warning at the beginning of the audio that advised the listener to stop listening if they were on an airplane . . . and they weren’t kidding!! This story was exciting from beginning to end and I couldn’t wait to hear what happened next. The end was a bit anti-climatic for me as there really was no closure as to punishment for those responsible. Great listen--9 out of 10 for me.   posted Jul 24, 2013 at 7:55PM

Cover ArtFriends forever : a novel
by Steel, Danielle
I have to say I was less than impressed with this story. In typical Danielle Steel fashion, the story is about affluent people, but this time with a bit of a twist by making it about the children of affluent families. I like the concept of this story; however, didn’t like the way the story progessed and ended. She could have done so much more with this story. 3 out of 10 for me.   posted Jul 22, 2013 at 8:14AM

Cover ArtThe innocent [sound recording]
by Baldacci, David
My first novel by David Baldacci and it was awesome!! I listened to this on audio CD and have to say I sat in my car when arriving at my destination on several occasions to listen a little more. Great story that really keeps you guessing what is going to happen next and wondering how all the pieces fit. It is totally amazing how everything comes together in the end --great authors can do that!! I loved this story!! 10 out of 10 for me.   posted Jul 15, 2013 at 8:35PM

Cover ArtThe killing hour : a thriller
by Cleave, Paul
Paul Cleave does an excellent job of keeping the reader in suspense in this novel. Did the narrator do it or was there really another killer involved? Once the reveal was made, I kind of lost interest in the rest of the story. I believe I read that this was Paul’s first novel, and after reading 4 of his other stories, I can tell that The Killing Hour didn’t have that style I noticed in his other books. Still a good read--6 out of 10 for me.   posted Jul 12, 2013 at 12:41PM

Cover ArtThe scarecrow [sound recording]
by Connelly, Michael
After a bit of a slow start, the story really picks up about half way through disk 3 and keeps you wanting to know what is going to happen next, right up until the end of the story!! Very suspenseful, well thought out and delivered plot. Really liked this one--9 out of 10 for me.   posted Jun 30, 2013 at 7:58PM

Cover ArtThe Blossom sisters
by Michaels, Fern
Just an OK read for me--not quite as exciting as the thrillers and murder mysteries I’ve discovered. I will always go to Fern Michaels for a light hearted story--this one features senior citizens who want to be active and productive. 6 out of 10 for me.   posted Jun 24, 2013 at 11:51PM

Cover ArtClassified
by Michaels, Fern
This book started out a bit slow, and really took a long time to develop the story. Also, there were so many things going on it was jumping all over the place. I was about to say that Fern Michaels should maybe discontinue both this series - the Godmothers Series--and the Sisterhood Series, but the last 50 pages of the book were pretty good and introduced some interesting thoughts. Guess we will see where Fern goes next!! 6 out of 10 for me.   posted Jun 17, 2013 at 8:28PM

Cover Art212 [sound recording] : a novel
by Burke, Alafair
This book had many twists and turns--really kept me wondering how the multiple plots were going to come together!! Had to keep listening to figure out how it would play out. The ending really threw me for a loop! I thought I had it figured out, but I did not. The author did a great job closing the story!! 8 out of 10 for me.   posted Jun 17, 2013 at 8:24PM

Cover ArtThe power trip [sound recording]
by Collins, Jackie.
This was the first Jackie Collins novel I’ve read / listened to outside of the Lucky Santangelo stories. I must say she had some very sterotypical characters: the overly dramatic gay interior designer; the beautiful model who thinks the world revolves around her (and according to her wealthy, married boyfriend, it does); and the pervert politician who treats his wife poorly (but refuses to allow her the divorce she wants as she is the perfect "future First Lady") and sleeps with whomever he desires. The mixing of 6 couples on a luxury yacht, some with interesting connections (both current and in the past) makes for an interesting story--had to keep listening to see what happened next!! I was a bit excited initially that Jackie Collins was narrating until I learned there were multiple narrators on this story, which caused a little disconnect of the characters as the narrators portrayed some of the same characters which made it difficult to follow which character was being referred to. Definitely worth a listen . . . or read!! 8 out of 10 for me.   posted Jun 2, 2013 at 4:22PM

Cover ArtWielding a red sword
by Anthony, Piers
Fourth in the Incarnations of Immortality series,I found this story great if, for no other reason, the Incarnation of War, Mars, actually realizing his romantic interest in the end. George Guidall, as in the previous stories, does an awesome job as narrator and really brings the story to life!! 7 out of 10 on this one for me.   posted Jun 2, 2013 at 4:13PM

Cover ArtThe dead caller from Chicago
by Fredrickson, Jack.
Another great Dek Elstrom novel by Jack Fredrickson!! Towards the end, there got to be a lot going on with the plot in this story, but this mystery still kept me on the edge of my seat right up to the end of the story!! 8 out of 10 on this one for me.   posted Jun 1, 2013 at 8:00PM

Cover ArtBlood money [sound recording]
by Perry, Thomas
Have to say this is another edge of your seat, nail biting adventure!! Full of suspense--I couldn’t wait to hear what happened next!! I must say the ending was a bit anti-climatic for me. There was closure to part of the story, but was confused with the ending as to how all the mafia / mob families dealt with the problems presented in the novel. The last disk was pretty much a let down. Joyce Bean did a great job narrating this story. 8 out of 10 for me.   posted May 19, 2013 at 1:35AM

Cover ArtUntil the end of time : a novel
by Steel, Danielle
This story was a bit different from most of the Danielle Steel stories I’ve read . . . and I loved it!! Two love stories in one, intertwined about 40 years apart. Loved that the story is about down-to-earth, real people instead of the extremely wealthy characters that are most often in Danielle’s stories. 8 out of 10 for me--very enjoyable read!!   posted May 19, 2013 at 1:20AM

Cover ArtGotcha!
by Michaels, Fern
After reading the last installment in the Sisterhood series, "Home Free", I didn’t set my expectations too high for this latest story, "Gotcha!" I was pleasantly surprised!! This book really starts a new chapter in the series, with the "second string" taking charge (but still relying on the "first string" to bring it all together). Definitely worth a read--8 out of 10 for me.   posted May 9, 2013 at 5:03PM

This story grabs you and pulls you into the excitement from the very beginning! So many twists and turns makes it difficult to determine who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. Another great story by Jack Fredrickson!! I came across this author quite by chance, but have loved each of his three stories I’ve read. This one was another great mystery with a very well thought out and delivered plot, with quite a surprising ending. Just when you thought you had it figured out, the author comes in with an unexpected twist. Interspersed with humor, this book is well worth the read!! Definitely 9 out of 10 for me.   posted May 5, 2013 at 6:38PM

As with the other Paul Cleave novels I’ve read, this one was a bit difficult to get involved in. There were many converging characters that had to be developed before everything fell into place. Many unexpected twists and turns--hard to put this book down!! Great story, but a bit too gruesome for me at points. 7 out of 10 for me on this one.   posted Apr 18, 2013 at 7:51PM

As always, George Guidall puts an interesting "spin" on this story with his amazing narration skills!! Really liked this third installment in the incarnations of immortality series, but got a bit long near the end, with too much logic involved. Kind of takes the pleasure out of a fantasy novel when you have to start thinking about what you are listening to. Good overall--8 out of 10 for me.   posted Apr 6, 2013 at 10:37PM

Listened to this story on audio book--George Guidall is an amazing narrator for this series!! So on to my review--the first two disks were a 10 out of 10 for me!! Then, not so good--the next 2 disks were too much Sci Fi for me, and the space man kept coming back, although his second appearance I found more enjoyable. Also too much physics and theory of relativity. The last couple disks turned around and I LOVED the ending!! Overall a 7 out of 10 for me.   posted Mar 1, 2013 at 7:14PM

I have to say I almost gave up on reading this story--it just made me so angry. But I don’t usually give up so continued on. This was a very different story from Fern Michaels and I can honestly say that I loved how the story turned around and the ending was amazing--yes, I cried!! Worth a read--8 out of 10 for me on this one.   posted Jan 26, 2013 at 4:07PM

If you’re looking for a great, heart-warming love story, this one’s for you!! Has a bit of a different twist, but guaranteed to bring some tears to your eyes as you read. Loved this story so much actually read the entire book in one day!! One of the underlying messages in this book was the importance of telling those special people in your life that you love them. Since I know the person who recommended this book to me will read my review I just want to say to him, "I love you"!! 9 out of 10 for me on this one.   posted Jan 20, 2013 at 9:26PM

Great story!! Second novel I’ve read by this author and even though this book was a bit difficult to get into at the beginning, I was soon engrossed in the story and had a hard time putting the book down. The ending was totally unexpected, which I think really added to my enjoyment of this book. I’ll say 8 out of 10 for me.   posted Jan 20, 2013 at 6:03PM

A narrator can make or break a story on audio book and that is the case on this one for me. I’ve read all the books and thought it might be a good follow-up to listen to them. Unfortunately the narrator’s voice is way too whiny and I didn’t even manage to make it through 2 of the 16 disks. Can only give this 1 of 10 as I couldn’t make it to the end of the story.   posted Jan 17, 2013 at 7:10PM

All I can say is "Wow"--what a great story!! I was pulled into the story immediately, and even though it leveled off a bit around disk 5 of 7, it got exciting again very quickly and kept me on edge right through the very end!! Listen to this one--you will definitely not be disappointed!! 10 out of 10 for me on this one!!   posted Jan 12, 2013 at 3:34PM

Awesome book!! I don’t think I’ve read a book that has kept me holding on with white knuckles to see what is going to happen when I turn the page . . . and then bring tears to my eyes. Great read--amazing story with well defined characters. Definitely a 10 out of 10 for me on this one!!   posted Jan 6, 2013 at 4:06PM

Enjoyed the story, but definitely time for the series to end when Moore resorts to "vampire cats". Really liked the ending and the series in general was very good. I would say 7 out of 10 stars for me on this end of series story. Did get quite a few laughs, so that was good!! Again, the narrator, Susan Bennett is awesome!!   posted Jan 4, 2013 at 9:07PM

Loved this story!! It had me hooked right away and kept me intrigued right through the very end with many different twists and turns along the way. Great story mixed with interesting characters made for a very enjoyable listening experience!! Love the humor that the movie industry intertwines with police work in this story. The first half of the book was a bit slow, but really laid the premise of the story. Couldn’t put the book down as I neared the end and was totally blown away by how this book ended. 7 out of 10 stars for me.   posted Dec 29, 2012 at 5:43PM

Another great story by Jackie Collins!! Lucky Santangelo is back and ready to take on a man who thinks he can have whatever he wants. Kudos to Jackie for writing amazing stories about strong women--love the Lucky series and look forward to the next story in the continuing saga!! Have to say this one was a bit different for me, but kept me coming back to listen for more!! Loved how everything comes together in the end--even had a couple laugh out loud moments on the last disk. Lenny Henry is an awesome narrator and definitely brings this story to life with his great management of all the different characters--each with a "voice" all their own!! 7 out of 10 for me.   posted Dec 10, 2012 at 1:24PM

A nice break from some of the more intense stories I listen to, this one actually made me laugh out loud on many occassions!! Love the introduction of the new characters and look forward to the next book in this vampire saga, Bite Me!! This story was a thriller from the very beginning!! I listen to these audio books in my car and can say this one kept me in the car when arriving at my destination to listen to "just one more track"!! Another great recommendation from a friend--have not been disappointed with any suggested "reads". The end was a bit anti-climatic for me after all the action, but still a great story!! Definitely a 10 out of 10 for me.   posted Nov 21, 2012 at 5:28PM

Great story--fun to see multiple story lines come together. Just a touch of SciFi, but not too much for someone who doesn’t enjoy this genre of writing. Scott Sowers did an awesome job of narrating the story!! 9 of 10 for me.   posted Oct 22, 2012 at 3:51PM

Cover ArtBetrayal : a novel

I’ve read most of Danielle Steel’s novels and can say that this story was definitely her typical style. After expanding my horizons and reading or listening to stories about some very "strong" women, I find this style a bit boring for me. Would give it 6 out of 10 rating.   posted Sep 7, 2012 at 8:04AM

Upon friends recommendation I checked out this audio book. The start of the Lucky Santangelo series is amazing!! I had read Drop Dead Beautiful (book 6 in series) first, upon recommendation from a friend, and am actually glad that I did read that one first and then go back to the beginning. I’m ready to move on to Lucky and look forward to continuing the saga!! Just one interesting point to the author: how can you operate a record player in a blackout? Back in 1977 I doubt there were battery powered devices, especially a record player.   posted Jun 2, 2012 at 6:26PM

Could have done without the first 6 or 7 chapters--then the book started to live up to Fern Michael’s standards. The first two chapters were an entire waste and added no value to the story. I do love the Godmother series, and starting on chapter 7 or 8, I was fully engrossed in the story line again.   posted May 25, 2012 at 8:38PM
