 Esperanza rising by Ryan, Pam Munoz. Besides the amazing coverart, this book was pretty fantastic. After Esparanza's father dies, her creepy uncles take over her farm in Mexico and try to marry her mother.  The lion, the witch, and the wardrobe by Lewis, C. S. 1898-1963. This is a great book. It's also meant for a younger reader, but it can be enjoyed by older people too. The language is very descriptive and the plot and characters are well-written. posted Jun 15, 2010 at 4:38PM

 Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets by Rowling, J. K. Not just the Chamber of Secrets, but all of the Harry Potter books. They are fantastic, long (but easy to read), and full of action. Really good books, even if you don't like fantasy. posted Jun 15, 2010 at 4:37PM

 The adventures of Tom Sawyer by Twain, Mark, 1835-1910. Tom Sawyer is a classic. You have to read it, though it is pretty slow in the beginning. It's worth it in the end, and it's full of suspense. posted Jun 15, 2010 at 4:36PM

 Uglies by Westerfeld, Scott. I really liked reading this book. The futuristic yet not totally sci-fi setting was awesome along with the plot and the characters.  Princess Academy by Hale, Shannon It sounds like it would be a really girly book, but it's not. I definitely recommend that girls read it more than boys, but it's not about princessy things.
