by Alexander, Max Every international business student should read this book. Everyone who sponsors a student in Africa should read this book. Everyone who uses a battery during the day should read this book. As a Minnesotan, used to days that vary in length depending on the season, I was surprised to learn that people living near the equator have 12 hours of daylight the entire year. Early night fall with no electricity... an obvious need for good batteries! But the business climate in Ghana is quite different than in the West. You will enjoy the friendly tone of this book, and you will like reading about the challenges these brothers faced as they tried to make money and empower poor people at the same time. posted Oct 1, 2012 at 8:18PM

by Boo, Katherine We take our legal system for granted in the United States. We might have many things to complain about, but we don’t have to navigate the tricky world of corruption and bribes for our every day lives. I didn’t know I was even interested in India until I read this book. Now I will have to learn more. Can we even imagine a world where teenagers sort dirty recyclable garbage (including used tampon applicators) for a living? Read this book! posted Sep 13, 2012 at 2:37PM

by Wilkerson, Isabel Don’t let the size of this book deter you! This book made me realize that my mother, who grew up in Tulsa, probably went to a segregated high school. I wish I could ask her about it. I also was confronted with the fact that my Italian immigrant in-laws could blend in with the white culture in ways these African American migrants never could. A thought-provoking book. Is the United States still blind to racism taking place today? posted Sep 5, 2012 at 7:39AM

by Moody, Anne You won’t be able to put this book down. It made me wonder what injustices I am currently accepting that are just as stupid as the ones whites made in Mississippi in the 40s through the 60s. posted Aug 10, 2011 at 12:04PM
