1. The author called Animal Farm a "fairy story". What do you think he meant by this? Does anything in the book remind you of a fairy tale? 2. Orwell wrote the book to criticize Soviet Communism. Is his critique effective? Are there aspects of his criticism that aren't effective? 3. Why do you think Orwell used animals as the main characters for the story? 4. Moses the raven tells the other animals about Sugarcandy Mountain. What or who does the character of Moses play represent? What role does he play on the farm? 5. After the animals overthrow Mr. Jones and take over the farm, there is a period when the animals all work together and are happy in their work. Why does this change? Do you think the farm could have succeeded as they originally planned? |
