Helen Fielding was born in 1958 in an industrial town in Northern England. She attended Oxford where she studied English, with dreams of writing one day. After college, Fielding got a job working for the BBC television studios. Her first book was called "Cause Celeb" and was based on the experiences she had while filming documentaries in Africa for Comic Relief. She also wrote the screenplay for the movie "Bridget Jones' Diary" which is based on her book of the same name. Fielding has received numerous awards and accolades including British Book of the Year (1997), Writers Guild of America nomination Best Screenplay, BAFTA nomination Best Screenplay, Evening Standard Award Best Screenplay all in 2002.
