This isn’t exactly science fiction so much as fantasy in my opinion, so if you are going to turn it down expecting lazers and spaceships its not like that. It’s one of my favorite books, Bartimaeus is awesome and witty! I don’t mean to shoot down your comment Claire, but I disagree.
