In "God Is Dead"-a novel in stories-we see what happens throughout the world after God dies. Literally, He takes the form of a young Dinka woman in Darfur, is killed by the Janjaweed, and is eaten by a pack of feral dogs who suddenly start to speak ancient languages. This gives rise to the conclusion that God, indeed has died. What happens next? Currie looks at humanity from a variety of perspectives and the reactions around the world are varied. So society breaks down for a while as humans adjust to life without God as new beliefs are put into place, as new reasons for war are born, and as new reasons for carrying on are examined. The potential message than becomes:whether God is alive or not, hope is pecarious-short in quantity and easily ditched for more readily available despair. Currie's black humor is both very funny and thought provoking. This is a book that demands to be read twice.

In the first chapter, somewhere during the Sudanese conflict in Darfur, God assumes the form of a woman armed only with a bottomless sack of sorghum and is killed by the Janjaweed. Subsequent chapters offer glimpses of how the world reacts in the years following God’s demise -- from child worship to child anti-worship, to a bizarre world scenario in which Postmodern Anthropologists and Evolutionary Psychologists are the factions battling it out in World War ?.
