I find his earlier work to be much funnier because it is so much more shocking and sick. Toward the middle of the book I was already sick of it all (and I even found myself becoming depressed). The end of the book was a relief, because you find that Ivan is in a much better place emotionally and mentally, but I felt like the humor was really lacking... Maybe I'm just a sick puppy? XP
