This is probably my favorite book of all time, certainly in the top top ten! Coming of age has never been so interesting!

Beautifully told coming-of-age story, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn follows Francie Nolan, a third-generation American, as her family struggles to survive in Brooklyn, New York, around the turn of the 19th century. The characterization in this book was staggering, and the poignancy of watching Francie grow up tugs at your heartstrings; however, the book eschews sentimentiality in lieu of harsh reality, a marked juxtaposition against Francie's dreams of fame and fortune. Wonderful.

This is an inspiring story about a girl growing up at the turn of the century. The story really makes a person realize the potential and strength that everyone has when determined. I felt grateful for what I have and loved this classic dearly.

I read this book when it first came out, and I liked it so much. I recently read it again as an 80 year-old woman, and because I could bring so much more to the book, it seemed even better than the first time around.
