Lois Duncan was born on April 28, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and she grew up in Sarasota, Florida. She attended the University of New Mexico. Duncan knew she wanted to be a writer from an early age. At the age of 10 she submitted her first story to a magazine and at 13, her first story was published . Throughout high-school, she wrote regularly for young people's publications, particularly Seventeen Magazine. She writes popular suspense stories for young people. These titles include I Know What You Did Last Summer, Night Terrors, Stranger With My Face, Don't Look Behind You and The Twisted Window. She is also the author of the nonfiction Who Killed My Daughter?, the the true story of her won search for her daughter's murderer. Her works have earned her several awards and recognitions. She received the Margaret A. Edwards (MAE) Award in 1992. Many of her novels have been chosen as American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults. Six of her books have been Junior Literary Guild selections, and three have received Parents' Choice awards. She has also received five Special Awards from the Mystery Writers of America.
