Yes, it's a beast of a novel. However, I recommend this over the abridged because the it is simply better. Reading the last page is wonderful, if for no other reason than the fact you just finished a 1462-page book. A plot summary would take me an hour to write, but it is essentially the story of Jean Valjean's life.

The title says it all. But it's a classic. And it's really interesting. And as a bonus, you get to look like the ultimate nerd as you lug a 2,000 page book around. Just what you always wanted. But it is really good. No kidding there. And the musical is even better. But I digress.
