Bourbon Street
Gaiter, Leonce
Adult Fiction GAITER
From Library Journal:
Gambling man Deke Watley arrives in 1958 New Orleans, joins the vindictive blind owner of a French Quarter gaming hotel, and meets ex-love Hannah, who just happens to be the owner's mistress. Unbeknownst to Deke, the blind man's black former mistress gouged his eyes out before he killed her, and their vicious mixed-blood son wants revenge. Through intimidation and cruelty, the son attempts to enlist Deke's help in killing his father. Weighty emphasis on description extends to physical details and psychological motivation but creates a murky atmosphere at the expense of narrative clarity. A moderately successful debut novel.-Red Klett, Mitchell Community Coll., Statesville, NC (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
