yes...and i would also recommend that you check out the book or paperback of the same title.
there really was a ship that sailed into the perfect storm, and the story had many details which would not have fit into the motion picture.
long ships, built to withstand the ocean squalls, are made long to retain buoyancy ( re: fluid displacement, archimedes principle). cutting a ship shorter and wider would make more room to haul fish, but taller waves would wash over the ship and capsize it. watch the movie!
it is of historic interest with compelling actors.
