We look at the life of an ambitious young woman, Kate Kontent, in 1938 NYC and the lives of four more characters who inhabit that world with her.
Terrific sense of place, wonderful dialogue, great evocation of this time and a good story. It looks at the role of choice and chance in the lives of these characters. It certainly made me think of their roles in my own. No wonder Rules of Civility was one of the highly rated books of 2011.
