Author Robert Stone was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 21, 1937. In 1954, he dropped out of high school and joined the Navy. In the 1960's, he briefly attended New York University, worked at the New York Daily News, and attended the Wallace Stegner writing workshop at Standford University. His novels are usually characterized by psychological complexity and political concerns.He has won numerous awards including a William Faulkner Foundation award for best first novel for A Hall of Mirrors, the National Book Award for Dog Soldiers, and a PEN/Faulkner Award for A Flag for Sunrise. The novel Dog Soldiers was made into the movie Who'll Stop the Rain. (Bowker Author Biography)
