A fun, light read with an interesting plot twist at the end. As a teacher, this book is useful for teaching grades 5-7 (depending on reading ability) about foreshadowing, plot, character development, and en media res, along with several other literary and some historic components. This book should appeal to both boys and girls; although the main character is male and the story contains lots of chase and escape, swordplay, and secrets, so it is very appealing to boys. Overall, a fun book to read.
