We meet the somewhat clueless Egon Loeser in 1930's Berlin where one of his main pursuits in life is sex. He is, however, not very successful in that pursuit no matter his efforts. He is a set designer for experimental theaters and is passionate about a Renaissance colleague of his who invented the "Teleportation Device" which, in one form or another, keeps coming back into the story. He also does his best to keep totally uninformed about current events so the sweeping changes taking place in German society pass him by. The pursuit of a young lady's favors lead him first to Paris where he has an interesting adventure involving monkey glands and then to Los Angeles where his life intersects with the lives of various German immigrants. He unwittingly ends up enmeshed in local politics and espionage, and even ends up getting married. This is a fun and imaginative story that will keep you guessing as per what will happen next.
