Geeks is a true story about two 19 year old guys, Eric and Jesse, who live in Ohio. The two roommates have never seen a city larger than Boise. Jesse E-mails Jon (the author), about his life in the middle of nowhere, and about the struggles of being a geek. Jon takes interest in the boys and goes out to Idaho to meet them and maybe do a short column about them. Well the column turned into a book. Jon sees the amount of wasted talent that they have and starts trying to convince them to move somewhere else.
The boys decide to move from Ohio to Chicago. They have to face many troubles relating to the move including finding a job, an apartment, and a city with a decent cable modem. But towards the end of the book, the Columbine shootings take place. The shooters were complete outcasts, the kind of people this story focuses on. He is flooded with E-mails from kids who are being terribly abused and ridiculed because of there behaviors.
This book is about the struggles of being an outcast. I would recommend it for anyone who is for lack of a better term, a geek, especially if you are into computers
