This book was truly inspirational. The story is about one Hmong family's journey from Laos and their epileptic daughter, Lia. The doctors in America have a certain way they want to help Lia, and her family has another. Two cultures crash right into eachother, leaving both sides confused and angry. They both want to help Lia, but they might end up hurting her in the process. This book also contains some backround information on the history of the Hmong people. It's also very interesting how a lot of the information comes from right here in Minnesota! I loved this book, and, I promise, you will too!!!

Fadiman’s well researched book gave me a new understanding of the Hmong culture while captivating me with a fascinating story of one epileptic child who’s family does the best they can to care for her, despite dissagreeing with most of Western medicine.
