This book is about a 11 year old girl named Ruby. Her Grandfather and her friends dad died in a bridge crash and Ruby's friend thinks its all her fault. Ruby has 2 pet chickens, Hattie and Aggie. She reads them the dictionary! The chickens are going to have babys but Ruby's friend kills them all by throwing rocks at the egg shells. Towards the end Ruby and her friend find out that it wasn't Ruby or her grandfathers fault that they both died. My favorite part was when Ruby taught the chickens to read the dictionary. I wonder if the chickens liked it very much. This was a fun book to read, and I didn't want to put it down.

Ruby Lavender used to have a good life. She and her grandmother, Miss Eula, were inseparable—they even drove the getaway car together to rescue chickens from Peterson's Egg Ranch! But this summer, Miss Eula will be in Hawaii, and Ruby's sure it'll be a lonely, empty, horrible season without her. What happens instead? A whole bunch of exciting things! You should read it!
