I’ve read all of Ann Tyler’s books and enjoyed this one too. The irony was amusing in that the Iranian couple raised their daughter totally western and the American couple were more concerned in preserving their daughter’s ethnicity - and it made clear the little girl had no patience for that.

Tyler is one of my favorite authors of all time. This story examines what it means to be American by following two women and their families. Her newest book should be out in 2012.
