My friend and I only lasted 90’ through this mildly interesting 3-hour saga of disfunctional Taiwan families. Why is this film in the Criterion Collection? The performances are strong, but the dialogue is hard for this English speaker to follow, and untangling the plot and characters just doesn’t seem worth the trouble.
