I was really disappointed in this book. I wish Grisham would go back to writing mysteries. I have a hard time believing that he would be burned out from that type of writing. Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend this book unless you enjoy being depressed while reading of the downward moral spiral of the main character. I couldn’t get past page 80. I glanced at the pictures in the middle of the book to get a feel for the topic and hoped for a better story, but I was bitterly disappointed.

I found it to be an excellent book. It shows us all how unjust our court system handles death penalty cases etc. It is not a happy book, but it does give one hope that enough good people are still around to correect boad things. The main character was deprssing but so was what his community and the prison authorites did to him.

I kept getting angry as I was reading this, it was hard to believe what the police did and the lawyers. I enjoyed this book anyway. I wonder if I had been on that jury if I would’ve sent those people to death row on such scanty evidence

This story left me with slightly conflicted feelings. On one hand, it was brilliantly written and, though at times it was a bit slow moving, mostly well-paced. On the other hand, I found the novel slightly biased against law enforcement, but I suppose most writers have some sort of agenda in writing non-fiction. However, I wouldn’t take this book as an indication that all law enforcement is unfair. Even so, the story was interesting. As this is the first book I have read by John Grisham, I am certainly not an expert on his writing style. However, this book has made me interested in reading more of his works. Although not one of my favorite books, it was still an interesting, informative read.
