If you haven’t checked out PJ Harvey’s, White Chalk, it is worth a listen, and then two, and then another two. The songs are all very short. On first spin it felt like she had shunned us with a measly 30 minutes, a shadow of her grandiose Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea. Yet after several listens, it creeps along, cooling your psyche, rendering your vantage parrallel to her delicate seductive voice. And then her crescendos rise, that estranged place falls, and you marvel over the transcendental dialectic that is unfolding before you.
