Yalini is a young woman whose family emigrated from Sri Lanka during the Sri Lankan civil war, and she narrates the stories of her relatives and ancestors.

The stories of are presented in no particular order with respect to timeline and characters, and I found it difficult to keep track of who was who. For the size of the book, Love Marriage took me a disproportionate amount of time to get through. It is essentially a lot of background information and no plot -- not my kind of fiction book.

I really enjoyed this book. Being also from Sri Lanka I was able to relate well to the book. The author brought in so many interesting people that even though it was hard to keep track of who was who, it was still enjoyable to read about each family member. I would recommend it highly! One piece of advice, write down each character as you read so it will be easier to keep track. I really felt that this book was in fact an artistic expression of a very complicated issue.
