It is one of the most serious books I have ever read. It certainly showed how dreadful African Americans were treated during that time, and, although the book was a very well written book, I found that I couldn’t enjoy it because there were no uplifting parts. Pretty much all the characters I liked died or ended up miserable. It’s a book you have to read sometime in your life, but now that I’ve read it, I don’t plan to read it again.
