This is the first of the series originating the TV show Bones. The forensic stuff is interesting, the writing is competent but it’s humorless and the heroine keeps on going into deserted graveyards in the dead of rainy nights.

If you ever get or have gotten tired of Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta. Here is the answer to that series. Luckily her stories are better written too - in my humble opinion.

Similar to the Patricia Cornwell books but Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist, an expert on bones. In this first book some of her technical stuff gets a little long and boring but I like Tempe better than Kay Scarpetta. Tempe seems more human. We get inside her head and feel her emotions more. Kay Scarpetta always seemed kind of cold to me. Tempe is lonely, angry, terrified. Good first novel for Reichs.
