Very good book, well deserving of its Alex Award as it should be enjoyed by teens/young adults. Young girls are disappearing in a small German town and Pia and her friend Stefan try to find out what happened to them. Great German atmosphere and customs described. Peppered with snippets of Deutsch.

A tiny Germany hamlet is shaken when young Katharina Linden vanishes without a trace. Ten year old Pia and her sidekick Stefan set out to unravel the mystery behind Katharina’s disappearance in this novel that playfully mingles literary genres. Reality is easily blurred and readers will enjoy the mixture of folklores, fairytales, and suspense. Helen Grant has created an enthralling novel whose winding plot mirrors the twisting streets of a medieval village. A surprise ending awaits her restless readers.
