The book is lovely. In this coming of age novel of small town life in Minnesota in the early ’60’s, Krueger manages to make many statements about his philosophy of life without being unduly preachy. It was a nice switch after Cork O’Connor novels to have the mystery elements of the book be more in the background rather than the driving force. It is definitely a book I recommend to fiction readers.
