Amazing story of Louie Zamperini’s life and incredible and inspiring adventures and travails during WW II. Crashed, adrift on the ocean and then a POW in Japan, Louie endured hardship on a monumental scale. I found the beginning a little slow but the account starting with the crash of his B24 until the end of the war absolutely absorbing.

Laura Hillenbrand is a phenomenal writer who tells an amazing story of survival. I really had a problem putting this book down. Zamperini’s spirit and endurance is truly inspirational, yet his story is something that we call all relate to, even though it seems like a hardship for most of us to stand on a long line at Byerly’s! I unquestionably recommend this book to anyone.

It is amazing sometimes to realize how often we people treat other people as less than human. I need to read more nonfiction, this was a good lesson in history, endurance, and in the end, a miracle of forgiveness.

I continuously shook my head in disbelief that this is a nonfiction book. A potential Olympic marathon runner turned air force soldier overcomes unbelievable odds time and time again through world war II. It starts with his plane crashing into the ocean. Midway through the book, I couldn’t see how it would continue for another 200 pages but the trials and tribulations continue upon rescue. It’s a nail biter through and through and truly helps you see just how incredible the human spirit can be.
