I had a love-hate relationship with the characters in this book. First there’s Jude: an ultra-controlling helicopter mom. Then, the dad, Miles, who is one of the most likeable characters but is basically a non-entity, especially in the first half of the story. Then the kids: ultra-cool and popular Zach, his twin Mia who is timid and ultra insecure, Lexie the friend and foster-care vet, Mia’s first true friend. Then Lexie and Zach fall in love. Then a horrible accident leaves all the characters a mess. One dies, one goes to jail, two soldier on and one falls apart. Ultimately all the characters who have made bad choices have to make new choices to let go of guilt, say goodbye, rebuild lives and start anew with love.
