An overwhelmingly powerful movie. Made by a Chinese director and co., it presents the Japanese sack of Nanjing from a Chinese perspective. Shot in black and white, the film is beautiful to look at, despite the devastation, and the actors uniformly fine. The human cost is almost unbearable to see. An essential movie about an event that is too little discussed.
