The book is the years 2010 and 2011 of Hornby’s columns in Believer magazine. I always enjoy these. This one incorporated his being caught up in the Oscar whirl as his screenplay for An Education was nominated. He is also researching background and beginning to think of a screenplay for Colm Tóibín’s Brooklyn, a book I loved. He does spend a fair amount of time reading and reading about Dickens, which took a bit away from his customary look at more contemporary fiction.
