Drama! Drama! Drama! Definately the word I would use to describe this book. Well written, dark, full of romance, but also some horror. An essential classic; a must read.

This book is one of my all-time favorite books. It has to be in my top ten. It is dark and a love story. Much better than the movie, although I love the singing aspect of the movies. But the book gives you a better perspective of all the characters.

This is one of my favorite books and, although I am not a fan of any of the movies based on it, I love the book. The characters are interesting a sometimes even funny, and the plot grabs you at page one and doesn’t let go unto the last page. I laughed, I cried, it was a great book. I highly recommend it.

While the musical/opera is really great (though the movie isn’t) it doesn’t do justice to Erik (the Phantom). Erik’s story is so sad, he’s been rejected by everyone because of his ugliness. He only has one sort-of friend, and he dies alone and sad. I’m pretty sure I cried. The musical focuses so much more on Christine’s character and how Erik is evil, and not at all on his internal struggle and grief. It’s tragic.
