One of the most interesting books you’ll ever read! stimulating, funny, grotesque, marvellously written, a real masterpiece! A must-read.

An entrancing tale on a not so entrancing subject.

Hmmm. I didn’t care for the author’s style. Details matter to me and when they’re wrong in fiction it’s one thing, when they’re wrong in non-fiction it’s something more. When she used the word "burked" as an example of "Machiavellian fricatives" although it’s neither, I stopped trying to find reasons to continue reading. If she’s willing to use words that sound good or look good but aren’t accurate, what else has she twisted or bent to make the book lite or upbeat or wry?
