Avasthi, Swati
One of my all-time favorite books about an average family who is beaten by their father. The youngest boy runs away, and the book discusses all of the hardships they endured. This is a hard, and somewhat graphic, read. If you can handle it, this is one of the best eye-opening books I have ever read!

The outsiders
Hinton, S. E.
Maybe you read this in school (I did!), but this book is a great book about fitting in. It talks about the different sides of the city and involves fighting, stealing, drinking, and drugs. Overall, this book is a really good classic read - I really enjoyed it in class. Check out the movie afterward, too!

My sister's keeper : a novel
Picoult, Jodi, 1966-
Though many people have probably read this book, it is always one of my favorites. The plot is about a sister who was created to donate organs to her sick sister. The plot is very intense, and will have you crying by the end.

The last song
Sparks, Nicholas.
This is my favorite Nicholas Sparks novel. It's about a rebellious girl who's sent to live with her father for the summer. Like all of his novels, The Last Song deals with love, break-up, friendship, parents, death, and much more. A truly interesting and fun, yet sad read.
