MINUTES OF
HENNEPIN COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
OF SEPTEMBER 28, 2005


The Hennepin County Library Board met on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Ridgedale Resource Library.

Present: John Gibbs, Holly Guncheon, Patricia Izek, Jeffrey Lunde, Peter Miller, David Pratt, and Cynthia Steinke
Library Staff Attending: Amy Ryan, Mary Anderson, Lois Langer Thompson, Sharon Charles, Carolyn Muchow, Lois Lenroot-Ernt, and Bill Berg.

CALL TO ORDER
Cynthia Steinke, President called the Hennepin County Library Board Meeting of September 28, 2005 to order at 4:33 p.m. with a welcome to all. There were no public comments.

John Gibbs moved approval of the minutes, seconded by Peter Miller and approved unanimously - 5 YEAS 2 ABSENT (Izek/Lunde)     APPROVED

LIBRARY BOARD MEMBER REPORTS
John Gibbs
• Attended the Literary Forum; "Guys Read Program" at the University of Minnesota which featured Jon Scieszka, Author
David Pratt
• Attended the 2006 Proposed Budget Presentation-Sensational, excellent presentation by Amy Ryan
• Continues to work with Library Foundation of Hennepin County with Pen Pals
Peter Miller
• Attended the 2006 Proposed Budget Presentation
Cynthia Steinke
• Attended the 2006 Proposed Budget Presentation
Patricia Izek
• Attended the Friends of Westonka meeting
• Attended ALA in June; Patricia will give report of ALA at October Board Meeting


PROGRAM
  • DRAFT Framework for the Future: 10-Year Capital Plan - A. Ryan
    Discussion and suggestions were taken from the Library Board Members surrounding the plan. The suggestions will then be given consideration and incorporated into the document in preparation for the Board Briefing Presentation before the County Commissioners on Thursday, October 27, 2005 @ 10:00 a.m. Following the Board Briefing and the approval of the 7-Principals by the County Commissioners, the document will then role out to staff and become a public document.

  • Friends of Penn Lake Library - Approval and Acceptance of Gift
    Marilyn Lustig, Senior Librarian introduced Agnes Fine, Artist who created works of art, which is being purchased and donated by the Friends of Penn Lake Library. Ms. Fine discussed the technique she used to create the painting. The Library Board moved approval and unanimously agreed to accept work of art for the Penn Lake Library - 7 YEAS     APPROVED
NEW BUSINESS
  • Review of 2006 Proposed Budget Presentation to County Commissioners - A. Ryan
    Amy recapped the 2006 Budget Presentation before the County Commissioners. The Library Board will meet to form a consensus regarding to move forward with lobbying County Commissioners for additional hours for the Library during the summer months.

  • Phase II Reorganization Structure

  • October 26, 2005 Library Board meeting is scheduled to be held at Westonka Library. Amy polled the Board to make sure that this where the Board wants the October meeting to be held. The Library Board agreed to have the October meeting at Westonka but start the meeting at 5:00 p.m. instead of 4:30 p.m.

    Peter Miller moved approval to accept non-monetary gifts, seconded by Jeff Lunde and approved unanimously - 6 YEAS 1 ABSENT (Pratt)     APPROVED
